Most Fitness Business Owners work long hours, give everything to their clients, and yet still don’t earn what they should.
They grind day after day, hoping that more effort will finally lead to a breakthrough.
But instead, they stay stuck—trapped in a cycle of too many hours, too little income, and zero real freedom.
The problem? They overcomplicate what it actually takes to build a thriving business.
They never take the time to run the numbers on the business they truly want. If they did, they’d see that hitting £5K+ per month is fairly simple.
And yet, every month, they see other coaches bringing in £5K+ —while they’re stuck wondering: “What am I doing wrong?”
How I Solved This (and How You Can Too)
I know exactly what this feels like—because I was in the same position.
Like most trainers, I thought the only way to earn more was to take on more sessions, work more hours, and hustle harder. But after years of grinding, I realised that approach had a ceiling—it was a one-way ticket to burnout, not financial success.
Not only that, but my first child was on the way and wanted to be present as a Dad.
So I changed my approach.
Instead of adding more work, I built a smarter model—one that allowed me to hit £5K+/month consistently, while working fewer hours and actually enjoying my business.
Here’s a screenshot from my own business, proving that the numbers are real:

^^This is taken from my tax statement after my final year as a gym-floor PT. My average monthly revenue was £5.5k per month, working 3 days per week in the gym.
This isn’t about luck or having a big following—it’s about following a simple process that ensures your business is profitable without selling every hour of your time.
And in the next section, I’ll show you exactly how you can do the same.
The Simple Blueprint for Earning £60K+ (Without Burning Out)
Before we go any further, let's get clear on something…
The numbers and examples I'm sharing here are for demonstration purposes only.
I want you to build the business YOU want.
Not what OTHER people are telling you to build!
You might be happy at £3k per month, or you might want to hit £10k per month.
The numbers are interchangeable but the underlying blueprint remains the same.
Our goal here is simple:
We need to get clear on the business you're trying to build, so that we can skip all the frustration, and reverse-engineer your dream business.
Let's get started…
Step 1: Revenue Goal
Get clear on the annual revenue you want your business to generate and calculate this as a monthly figure.
Example: £60k per year / £5k per month
Step 2: Lifestyle Goal
Get clear on how many hours per week you want to work and calculate this as a monthly figure.
Example: 40hrs per week / 160hrs per month
Step 3: Calculate Average Hourly Rate
Take your monthly revenue figure and divide it by your monthly working hours figure.
This gives you your average hourly rate required to earn that annual salary for the amount of hours you're willing to work.
Example: £5,000 / 160hrs = £31.25
^^The figure calculated here is an AVERAGE hourly rate. Some of your working hours maybe less than this figure, some will be more.
Step 4: Benchmark Your Current Business
Use these figures to assess if you are on-track to build the type of business you want to be building.
For example: Does the amount you charge match or exceed your average hourly rate?
Another example: Are your working hours exceeding the goal you set?
Step 5: Clarity On Your Next Steps
With all this relevant data at hand you can now make clear decisions on where your focus should be.
For example: Your hourly rate might be fine, but currently, you're not doing enough paid hours at that rate to hit the income goal - your goal is to get more paid hours at that level (or higher)
Another example: You're hitting your revenue goal but working too many hours. You now know that you need to decrease your working hours and increase the average amount earned per hour. You should have an EXACT figure for what that hourly rate needs to be.
Why This Works…
This blueprint doesn't care about what the latest Business Guru is telling you to do.
It's about drilling down the facts and the cold, hard numbers behind the business you want.
How you get there is completely up to you.
In the earlier example (£31.25 average rate) MOST coaches would already be charging above this number and would simply need to do the work to fill their capacity.
They don't need a fancy new system or build a new distraction - they need to master what they're already doing and get more people engaging in it.
Only then will they have a better idea of what might come after this phase of business.
Going back to my example from earlier…
My £5k+ per month business required an average hourly rate of £55/hr for me to hit my income goal whilst only doing 3 days per week in the gym (25hrs per week).
To do that, I set my 1-1 PT prices at £50/hr and offered Semi-Private PT at £25-£30 per hour.
Here's how my system worked…
I'd take people on as new clients on a 1-1 basis for one month, using this time to do their assessments and understand their needs, whilst also showing them the basics.
After their initial month, I would add them to one of my existing Semi-Private Groups that I initially built from switching most of my 1-1 clients over to this model.
(When I dropped from 5 days per week to 3 days per week it created the demand needed to build out those groups quickly and get people working together)
Once in a group, the client's fee reduced to £25-£30 (depending on the group number) but my hourly rate was often £100/hr for these slots.
I capped my groups at 4 people and got great at providing my service in this way.
I Know What You're Thinking…
"There's no way people will pay the equivalent of £100/hr for Group PT"
That statement isn't true, and when you reframe it, you'll see why…
People aren't concerned with the collective amount you're paid.
People only care about what THEY get for THEIR money.
Which begs the question…
"If someone spends £25-£30 with a different coach, would their experience be better or worse than the £25-£30 they're spending with you?"
I was 100% confident that every client would get a better experience spending that money with me than they would with someone else.
…Even if that other person was offering a 1-1 service for that same price.
I knew, deep down, I would deliver something another coach couldn't match at that same price-point - despite my offering being a group format.
Here's another way to think about it…
Imagine what it would cost for a live 1-1 performance by your favourite band.
For arguments sake, let's say it's £1million.
Would you pay it?
Probably not.
But you WOULD pay £100 to see them in a stadium that holds 50,000 people.
That group experience is equal to £5million - but that never crosses your mind. Instead, you only care about if YOU got value for YOUR £100 spend.
And here's the important part…
That £100 you spent on a group experience to see 'the best' is far more valuable to you than spending £100 on a 1-1 experience that's 'average'.
It's an interesting insight in to human psychology.
One I think people often ignore.
To Summarise…
At the end of the day, people don’t care about what you earn—they care about the value they get for what they pay.
If your service is positioned as the best option for their budget, they won’t think twice about investing in it.
The biggest mistake most PTs make is focusing on the wrong numbers—worrying about their total earnings instead of optimising their pricing, structure, and delivery to create a business that actually works for them.
Your success isn’t about working harder or doing more—it’s about building smarter.
Follow this blueprint, refine your approach, and watch your business grow without selling every hour of your time.
